Forest Park Forever Hat Luncheon

Today was a perfect day for lunch in the park and all for a great cause! I got the opportunity to attend the 23rd annual Forest Park Forever luncheon a fundraiser to keep this beautiful park flourishing in the St. Louis region.  If you live in St. Louis, Forest Park is probably a place that you frequent to exercise, go to the zoo or art museum, go paddle boating or slide down art hill on a snow board during the winter.  Today the park was filled with the most spectacular hats and I had the opportunity to serve as one of the anonymous judges walking around inspecting every had that came in.  There were several categories: whimsical, couture, homemade, fascinators, vintage, and best male hat and no one disappointed.  Prizes including  jewelry form Tiffany & Co., Spa packages from Neiman Marcus and Airline tickets.  All in all this pretty fun event raised about $300,000 for our beautiful Forest Park.  Check out a few pics from today’s event!

Alexander McQueen’s "A Queen Within" Sneak Preview in St. Louis

“In the game of chess, the queen is considered the most powerful and many times the most unpredictable piece,” as are the designs of Alexander McQueen.  Last night in St. Louis,  Fashion Group International hosted a special sneak preview of A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes, Fashion and chess, it’s an exhibit that will open on October 19, 2013, with extremely rare pieces from one of the world’s largest private collections.

Last night’s event was held at the World Chess Hall of Fame in the Central West End and it was incredibly informing and inspiring.  The amazing curators enriched our knowledge of one of the most beloved designers, who definitely left this world too soon.  The pieces shown were intricate, multi-dimensional and every aspect of the design was calculated.  We were surprised to learn that some of the pieces did not only have one design but several within a piece that had it’s own functionality.  The pieces were finely crafted with the most beautiful textiles.

The atmosphere was awesome, FGI St. Louis is the pre-eminent authority on the business of fashion and if you would like membership information contact me. They created a wonderful networking atmosphere for fashion professionals and connoisseurs of fashion, provided a variety of hor derv’s and cocktails, and there was a 10% discount to shop the World Chess Hall of Fame gift shop! It was a wonderful time last night and you have the chance to see this great exhibit this fall.  The exhibit will actually kick of in St. Louis and then head around the world. Here are the deets:

Valerie Steele in the STL =Fashion Heaven!

So this past weekend, I had the honor of meeting Dr. Valerie Steele, Fashion Curator for FIT in New York and also named the most brainiest woman in fashion. She is also listed as one of Fashion’s 50 most powerful by the New York Daily News.
Dr. Steele was in St. Louis, MO last Friday night for a Gala and she gave a lecture at Washington University the following day. Craft Alliance was responsible for bringing Dr.Valerie Steele here and I am so glad that they did!
I was able to attend the FGI (Fashion Group International) meet and greet, as well as the lecture that Saturday.  Valerie talked with us and answered questions regarding her life, her career, and what she sees in the future for fashion.
The lecture that she gave was called ” The Art of Fashion” where she talked about the century debate of whether or not Fashion is considered Art. The lecture was insightful, informative, inspiring and FUNNY! Valerie ended the lecture by saying “Fashion is Art..If you believe it”
I had a fabulous time talking with Dr. Valerie Steele, and I found her to be an exceptionally nice, not to mention super stylish woman! Check out her outfit!
