Hey yall, I hope you all have been having a fab summer! I’ve been having an awesome time with my family, and as I’m gearing up to return to my work in education, I’ve been contemplating a minimalist wardrobe. I purged my closet twice this summer and still feel like I may need to pare down some more. I’ve always been good with the 1 in 1 out philosophy, which is giving away something old whenever a new item is purchased, but I feel like I need a challenge.
Binge watching Tiny House Nation could have sparked this minimalist vibe that I’m feeling, but I’ve also been greatly inspired by my friend Dacy Gillespie, owner of Mindful Closet. She wrote a post about Project 33, a challenge to create a capsule wardrobe out of 33 items of clothing. It’s a great read, and you should definitely check it out. It really inspired me to give minimalism a try. However, I’m starting with baby steps. I’m starting with nine pieces of clothing, two pairs of shoes, and two necklaces. Now, these aren’t my work clothes, but they are my ME clothes. I wanted to start with clothing that represented me the most and then tackle my “work” clothes. I’m trying to get away from feeling like I need more pieces and work with what I have. My biggest challenge is feeling like I’m going to get bored, but I am willing to give it a shot.
***UPDATE*****
I spent the month of August on this project, and it was a great experience for me! It really challenged me to repurpose and get creative with my clothing. I felt good in everything I wore and it was easier to get dressed! I only have nine outfits pictured below, but I could have kept combining. I honestly got bored, but hey it was only 9 items of clothing. Project 33 allow 33 items of clothing and that is a game changer when you talk about minimalism. I am going to continue to be conscientious about the clothes that I bring in the house, but i’m also going treat myself from time to time.
